The proof is in the pasty!

The proof copy of the book finally arrived from the printers today!

I’ll be going over this with a fine tooth comb over the next few days before making any necessary corrections, and then ordering the first print run! Orders will then get sent out as soon as that first batch arrive.

I’m still taking preorders or the book will be available in both print and ebook formats from Amazon in a few weeks… watch this space, or stay updated via the Proper Pasties Facebook page.

Big update

Well it sure seems that I’ve been neglecting the blog here! In fact I’ve been posting regular updates at the Kickstarter campaign page, and they were supposed to be updating the blog here but I forgot to check and turns out that they haven’t and that only my Kickstarter backers have been seeing them.

So, apologies if you have been waiting for an update but not seeing one, the book is actually going to the printers this week so it won’t be that long before I start shipping pre-orders and Kickstarter rewards and for the book to be on general sale.

In the meantime, here is a sneak preview of the cover to whet your appetite, and I’ll try to remember to post updates here in future…

Big Thanks

This book is only going to be a reality because of the support of some very special people – my Kickstarter backers! Kickstarter Success

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has been supporting the project, not only did the project meet the funding goal it smashed through it with a total raised of 140% the target!

Scones

I did a guest blog post today for Rebecca Ritson (the talented journalist who writes for The Good Cornwall Guide, and Cornwall Life amongst others) about the Pasty Championships, and my baking in general.  I included my scones recipe which you might like to try.  You can head over to read the whole blog post, or check out the recipe below:

Cornish Cream Tea

(makes 6 scones)

Ingredients

225g Self raising flour
55g Butter or margarine
150ml semi skimmed milk
Squeeze of Lemon juice
1 1⁄2 tbsp Caster sugar
1⁄2 tsp baking powder
Pinch of salt

Method

Preheat the oven to 220C/425F/gas 7, and place a non-stick baking sheet into the oven on the top shelf.

Warm the milk to around body temperature, stir in the squeeze of lemon and set aside.

Sift the flour and other dry ingredients, then rub in the butter or margarine until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs (as if making pastry), then add the liquid and bring together until all the flour is incorporated, to make a rather wet looking dough.

Turn this out onto a floured surface, and knead for just a minute or until the dough is elastic but still soft. Pat out to around a 3cm depth and cut out your scones with a sharp cookie cutter (a 5 or 6 cm cutter is about right). Knead the excess, pat out again and continue to cut scones until all the dough is used.

Beat an egg with a teaspoon of water and brush over the top of the scones, transfer them to the baking sheet and bake in the oven for around 12 minutes until they have risen and are golden brown on top. Allow to cool on a wire rack.  To serve, split them and put strawberry jam on first – then the clotted cream (not the other way around!)

2 of my award winning Cornish pasties, couriered anywhere in the UK mainland. Plus a digital copy of the book, plus a digital copy of the special edition collection of extra recipes.

£50 – Four Pasties and a Book

4 of my award winning Cornish pasties, delivered my by (within 15 miles of Truro) or couriered anywhere in the UK mainland. Plus a signed, printed copy of the book, plus a digital copy of the special edition collection of extra recipes.

£100 – Private Lesson

Private pasty lesson. I will come to your house (within 15 miles of Truro, otherwise add £1 per mile to cover fuel) and give a pasty making lesson (up to 2 hours) for you and up to 3 friends in your own kitchen, using your equipment and ingredients. Plus a signed, printed copy of the book.

£200 – Group Demonstration/Workshop

I will come to your office/club/school etc. and give a pasty making workshop (up to 3 hours) for up to 30 people (within 15 miles of Truro, otherwise add £1 per mile to cover fuel) You’ll get a demonstration from me using my ingredients, followed by having a go yourselves with your own ingredients while I give help and advice. Plus a signed, printed copy of the book.
